Whoever enters lands of the Credit and Services Cooperatives (CCS) and Agricultural Production (CPA) in the municipality of Martí, will find little space in an idle state, since in addition to that dedicated to threshing and roads, the rest is occupied by various crops , fruit trees, pasture areas, bee communities or corrals of major and minor cattle.
Raúl Antonio Hernández Ramos, president of the National Association of Small Farmers in the demarcation, explained that the purpose of these entities is to satisfy the annual production plan, with an emphasis on lines such as export and import substitution, with favorable balances this year.
The territory has the CCS Ciro Redondo, Pedro González, Camilo Cienfuegos, Luis R. González and Sandalio R. Díaz, as well as the CPA Abel Santamaría, Esteban Hernández, and Porfirio Cabrera, the latter dedicated to the cultivation of sugarcane.
“From the intensification of the economic blockade, the peasants were immediately exhorted, who made emergent plantings of meats, grains, vegetables, rice, beans, corn and fruit.
"Satisfactory is also the production of bovine milk, another vital item in which we were asked for a significant increase, insisting on the care of the herds, the adequate milking and the sowing of food for animal use," highlighted Hernández Ramos.
On the other hand, the delivery of new thermoses for the local distribution of milk has determined a greater efficiency of the activity.
AGROECOLOGY IN PUNTA
The peasant Leodanis Hernández Otero is multifaceted. In his 7.5-hectare Las Maravillas farm, there is a waste of energy and knowledge, as well as results.
Various crops, major and minor livestock, in particular pigs, are "fertilized" with such agroecological practice, to protect human health, animals and the environment.
Leodanis fattens a hundred animals agreed with the Porcine Company. He buys them at weaning and markets them with 90 kilos or more. “We receive 70 percent of state food, the rest I contribute. In 2018 I sold nine tons of meat. This year will be similar, although the state feed was lacking for a while, ”says the producer.
“I have a biodigester from the pig's excreta. It provides me with gas to cook at home and guarantee the food of the animals. With the tributaries I produce fertilizer for the crops. I will soon use this gas to generate electricity for my home and other needs.
“The solar energy photovoltaic panel that I have generates electricity for the installed irrigation system, which covers four hectares planted with jatropha / culca (botija pinion or flowering pinion), a plant whose seed is used to produce oil and from this, through a process, biodiesel is extracted, useful fuel in our tractors ”, explained Leodanis.
Agrocologist convinced, also uses microorganisms to protect crops and animals: “I want my farm to be comprehensive, not dependent. If we work, with the help of science and technology, the earth gives us everything. ”
