In our country, educational attention to early childhood, from birth to 6 years, is a priority from the triumph of the Revolution, proof of this is that the first circles were created as early as 1961 children, in response to the necessary incorporation of women into work and the precarious situation of children's institutions that existed until now.
Institutional
The children's institutions that exist in our country for the care of early childhood children are called Children's Circles and preschool classrooms, located in the Primary Schools, in these institutions the child receives an educational program, derived from research conducted and taught by professionals from different types of early childhood training. In relation to the Children's Circles, the children of working mothers have priority for their entrance, from 1 year to 6 years of age. These centers operate from 6:00 in the morning until 7:00 at night, organizing their staff by work shifts that cover the whole day, as well as working Saturdays.
The organization of children's lives in children's circles is governed by the requirements of a life schedule that contemplates the satisfaction of basic needs (food, hygiene and sleep), as well as the teaching schedule, which contemplates the various activities pedagogical that promote the integral development of children. These centers also have a medical attention service (a nurse) and other specialties (speech therapists, art instructors), as well as a food manual that responds to the nutritional needs of these ages.
Institutional
The non-institutional modality for the educational attention to the children of the Early Childhood is the Program Educate your Child. This program is aimed at preparing families so that, based on their own experiences and knowledge, they carry out educational actions with their daughters and sons from home conditions.
Representatives of the different state agencies and social organizations (Health, Culture, Sports, Federation of Cuban Women, National Association of Small Farmers, Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, among others), who operate in the community, participate in it. Coordinating Group that coordinates Education.
In its practical implementation, for family orientation, it has professional staff (preschool teachers and teachers, pedagogical assistants, librarians, family doctors and nurses, sports technicians, culture instructors, among others)
This program begins with the care of pregnant women, using the spaces designed by the health system of our country, starting from ensuring that in addition to clinical care, educational guidelines are offered that ensure their preparation to stimulate the development of your child during pregnancy and at birth.
Educational Orientations
The preparation of families is a priority within Early Childhood Education, in order to ensure that it plays a leading role in the education of their children.
Educational Plan
The educational program, regardless of the form of organization it adopts, is based on a set of principles referring both to the factors that condition the educational process, and to the particularities and characteristics of boys and girls. These principles are:
• The child as the center of the entire educational process.
• Guiding role of the adult in the education of the boy and girl.
• Integration of activity and communication in the educational process.
• Linking the child's education with the surrounding environment.
• Significant role of the family in the education of children.
• Interrelation and interdependence between the different components of the educational process.
• Attention to individual differences.
The organization of the educational process, both in children's circles and in preschool grades, starts from considering, as an indispensable condition for the success of the education of boys and girls, the process of adaptation to the institution, which consists of gradual transition from living conditions in the home to those in the circle. This process is based on a set of principles and requirements resulting from research carried out for this purpose.
The Educational Program is structured in areas of knowledge and development, and includes the following contents:
• In accordance with the flexibility of the curriculum, the programmed activities are structured in such a way that the contents related to the different spheres of development are harmoniously combined, in correspondence with the characteristics of the group of boys and girls, conditions of the educators and executors, and content to work. This way of structuring the programmed activities is one more possibility to favor the creativity and independence of those responsible for the education of children.
• The content of the independent activity can be very varied depending on the interests, tastes and needs of the children who select it, but the educator and the executor of the non-institutional path, together with the family, undoubtedly also exert their influence in a different way. very indirect, including among the materials that children have at their disposal, some that are suggestive and whose use can contribute to achieving the proposed objectives.
• Among the various alternatives to offer boys and girls during independent activity are role play, drawing, modeling with modeling clay or clay, building with blocks or boxes, didactic games, movement games, dramatizations, musical games, walks and everything the educator or executor can create to enrich them. A content scheme of these activities is not offered, because this would go against its own essence, in which the free choice of the child, among the multiple options offered or what he himself can propose, constitutes the most important element. important.
The organization of the educational process in institutions is also governed by a life schedule, which enables the rational satisfaction of basic needs. This schedule ensures the hours of sleep and daily wakefulness, taking into account age, individual characteristics, the rate of change from one to another and diet, as well as the correct variation and dosage of activities during wakefulness. It is structured by year of life in correspondence with the particularities of these processes at each age and the needs of boys and girls.
